Open your heart, open your home – Muslim fostering with BVUK

Across the UK, thousands of children are in need of safe and loving foster families. According to Barnardo’s and government figures, more than 70,000 children are in care in England. Each year, thousands more come into care, yet there is a shortage of around 9,000 foster families nationwide.

For Muslim children, the challenge is even greater. Many are placed with families who do not share their faith, culture, or dietary needs. While foster carers do their best, it is important for Muslim children to grow up in a home that understands their values, language, and traditions. This helps them feel safe, secure, and connected to their identity.

That is where BVUK Fostering Service comes in. We are calling on British Muslim families across the UK to step forward. Even one spare room in your home could change a child’s life forever.

Why Muslim foster families are needed:

  • To provide children with familiar halal food, prayer space, and cultural understanding.

  • To keep children connected with their faith and heritage.

  • To meet the urgent shortage of Muslim carers, especially for teenagers and siblings.

  • To give children love, stability, and guidance at a critical stage in their lives.

BVUK will support you with:

  • Training and guidance at every step.

  • Financial support to help you provide for the child.

  • A community of like-minded foster carers.

  • Advice tailored for Muslim families.

A personal recommendation
My name is Sabir Esa, and together with my wife Feroza Esa, we are currently going through the fostering application process. From our experience, it is not as difficult as people often think. The training and support make each step clear and manageable. More importantly, it is a deeply rewarding journey.

Opening your home to a child in need is one of the most meaningful things you can do. We strongly encourage other Muslim families to take this step. Your care could give a child love, stability, and a strong connection to their faith and culture.

Becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “I and the one who looks after an orphan will be in Paradise like this,” and he joined his two fingers together.

Take action today. Open your heart, open your home, and give a Muslim child the love and security they deserve.
